Listen to Dr. Hy Goldman discuss his experience founding the KlezKanada Laurentian retreat in 1996 with his wife Sandy, with the aim of teaching, nurturing, and presenting traditional Jewish arts and culture to a broad public. Dr. Goldman took a lead in re-introducing the long-forgotten klezmer music to Montreal in the 1980s and has subsequently been responsible for many public events and concerts, including performances at the Montreal Jazz Festival. Dr. Goldman has also been an Associate Professor of Paediatrics at McGill University and the Montreal Children’s Hospital for over 50 years and was recognized with a lifetime achievement award by the Children’s Hospital. He and his wife were recently awarded the Canadian Government Meritorious Service Medal for the development of KlezKanada as well as wide-ranging accomplishments in Canada and beyond. This interview was conducted by Zoe Backhouse and edited by Elizabeth Fingler.
