The Jewish Community in Iraq faced severe oppression, starting in the late 1940s. After the 1967 Arab-Israeli War, conditions worsened significantly. Many families suffered greatly, and fled. Sandra Benjamin's family fled their home in Baghdad. Eventually, they ended up in the Montreal suburb of Mount-Royal.
