After recounting both her parents' early lives in Romania and their experience coming to Canada after WWII, Jacqueline Gruia-Gray describes the pressures her parents faced of fitting in, the importance of education that was emphasized in her family, and the complex politics of publicly ascribing to a Jewish identity that she experienced while growing up in Montreal. This oral history was conducted as part of Yuula Benivolski's project, The Ocean Between Us.
